MY EXPERIENCE WITH OUR NEW SERVICE

Did you know that Scalp Micropigmentation is the most cost-effective, and least-invasive treatment for hair loss?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive method of depositing pigment into the scalp with individual needles and a rotary tattoo machine. The result creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles or short hair stubble, perfect for clients with a receding hairline, Alopecia, Androgenic Alopecia (pattern-baldness), general thinning-hair, and scalp scarring.

After deciding that SMP was the next service we wanted to bring into Brows by G, Daneige (one of our incredible Senior Specialists) travelled to Calgary, AB this past spring to learn from the highly regarded Lance Lee at Hoi Tattoo. Daneige excelled in this program and used her decade-plus of experience in the hair industry to boost her scalp and hair knowledge. Since receiving her certification, Daneige completed several SMP sessions and following the company-wide announcement of our new service, she has begun providing this solution to our incredible Winnipeg clientele (including me!).

I have always had thinner hair. Growing up, I was never self-conscious about it and never thought about it. After my 21st birthday, I began noticing that the crown of my scalp had become slightly thinner, which has now gotten worse over the years. After trying clip-in hair extensions to create more volume in my hair and hide my scalp, I was left with bald-patches and even thinner hair. Quickly scrambling for a new solution, I tried three other types of extensions including weave-in extensions which made me look like a glamorous mermaid. But, the tension on my baby-fine hair was too much for my scalp to handle. Shortly after beginning my career at Brows by G, I removed my extensions and rocked the thin hair that I was meant to have. My hair has grown and become stronger in the last few years as my crown has gotten thinner and thinner. Over the last two years, I have been using tinted dry-shampoo, root cover spray and a lot of different hairstyles to try and hide my scalp. I am very lucky that I do not have Androgenic Alopecia (pattern-baldness), and my thin hair is just a result of my genetics (thanks mom and dad!).

Upon announcing our new Scalp Micropigmentation services, I knew that SMP would be the solution I had been looking for! I had my consultation about a month ago, and began by showed Daneige the areas I was self-conscious about (the top of the crown). We also discussed which pigment shade would be best for me, and Daneige finished the consultation by performing a test-patch area behind my ear to ensure she could assess the healed ‘impressions’ (what we call the little dots). Each client is require to come meet with Daneige to receive receive a personalized quote before booking their first session and to ensure the client is a candidate for the service. Depending on the expectations, most clients require 3-4 sessions of 2-4 hours each.

I cannot tell you how excited I was to finally begin a process that would camouflage my vampire-pale skin and allow me to feel confident about my scalp. At my first session, Daneige began the impressions and I was put at ease with the calming buzzing noise of the Micropigmentation machine. Although we do have numbing cream available, it really was not necessary for me and I was not in pain. My session finished in 2-hours and I was surprised because I expected my scalp to be tender, sore and a bit red. However, my scalp felt the same as it did before! Seeing the little impressions after only one session was very exciting. We immediately booked my next session and I began the healing/aftercare process.

I have now finished 2 out of my 3 sessions and I can already see such a different in the density! My hair looks fuller and my white scalp is not as evident as it was before. Scalp Micropigmentation sessions can be booked a minimum of 10-days apart so the process to complete all of the sessions is quite quick. The aftercare and healing process is also quite minimal. (see our Scalp Micropigmentation FAQ for more information).

Overall, I am beyond happy with my results so far and cannot wait to finish all of my sessions! I am very thankful that Scalp Micropigmentation exists and really hope our clients with thin hair, any form of alopecia, balding, and other hair-loss conditions consider SMP. We are offering free consultations in July and August as well! Do you know someone with any of the above listed conditions? Let us provide them with a solution that has already been life-changing and confidence boosting for me and my scalp!
